The vaquita, the world's smallest whale, is near extinction, as its habitat is destroyed by Mexican drug cartels and the Chinese mafia seeking to harvest the swim bladder of the totoaba fish - - the so-called "cocaine of the sea." This urgent documentary tells the story of the efforts of environmental activists, the Mexican navy, and undercover investigators, who are fighting back against this illegal and environmentally-destructive multi-million dollar business.

What we think: Is it an environmental documentary? is it a thriller? This film is fascinating in any way.

Sudan is the last male northern white rhino in existence, and this film explores the painful emptiness of potential species extinction, through the eyes of Sudan's three primary caregivers. Teetering on borrowed time and with his health in decline, Sudan's looming death and the uncertainty of employment that it will bring hangs over the heads of our three dynamic characters. Their only hope to save the species they love - and perhaps their livelihoods - rests fully upon the success of a last resort in vitro fertilization (IVF) experiment.

What we think: a touchy love story between humans and animals which encapsulates not only an intimate relationship but also a desperate struggle for the survival of the whole species.

In 1993, at the age of 51, Rolf Schultz moved to the Dominican Republic from Hamburg to build a castle. Through extraordinary art, architecture, and showmanship, this eccentric German man weaves fantastic tales of attracting alien spaceships to Earth. Visitors to his home - Castillo Mundo King - are wowed by its towering, Gaudi-esque design and alien adornments. And, they most likely leave questioning whether Rolf has truly encountered aliens or is simply the greatest showman this side of the Milky Way.

What we think: A deep look into the life of an adorable "weirdo" who built a temple to serve as the center of the universe, but really transcends into the core of his own turbulent inner world,

Expected to attend: Director Michael DeMinico
